WORLD'S FIRST SAILBOAT RACK SYSTEM Barrington Marine located in Barrington, RI  USA  specializes in the design, manufacture, and distribution of the world's first marine-grade, production sailboat rack system.

Barrington Marine Sailboat Rack Systems provide coastal and offshore sailors with a convenient and organized way to stow gear when sailing and while in harbor.  Taking advantage of the underutilized space under the boom and above the deck, a Barrington Marine Rack System allows any sailor to easily accommodate important gear such as dinghies, solar panels, surfboards, kayaks, fold-up bicycles, jerry cans, liferaft canisters, whisker and spinnaker poles, etc.

Barrington Marine Sailboat Rack Systems are also compatible with all Thule and Yakima accessories thereby allowing the sailor a broad range of storage and transport options. More importantly, the Barrington Marine Sailboat Rack System will accommodate any Thule or Yakima storage boxes and baskets which allows the sailor an ideal and weather-proof  storage locker for running rigging, extra sails, fishing gear, dive gear, and spare and odd-shaped gear.

Barrington Marine Sailboat Rack Systems have been designed to accommodate most sailboats between 20' and 50'. After an intensive two year development and testing period, the Barrington Marine Sailboat Rack design will accommodate virtually all sailboats which have normal handrails.  This unique feature allows use of the rack system on most yachts.  The new design adapts to the handrails of each sailboat (as seen in the photos above). However, the weight on the rack does not transfer to the handrails.  Rather, the weight transfers to the level mount feet located at the base of the foundation blocks.  This means that only a fraction of the actual weight transfers to the handrails which merely serve  as a mounting point for the rack's foundation blocks (shown in white below).

When a boat heels, the weight on the rack transfers from side to side. This generates load  and stress which would likely compromise the teak or stainless handrails of a standard yacht. However, Barrington Marine's unique rack design ensures that the load stress is transferred to the rack's foundation blocks through four level mount feet molded into the rack foundation blocks. The level mounts also allow the foundation block to sit at a comfortable 90 degree angle to the deck and compensate for any curve in a cabin top. This results in a custom-fit for each and every yacht.

The Barrington Marine Rack System are offered starting at a Retail Price of  $549 . Pricing varies depending on the lengths of aluminum crossbars needed.   Unlike a car rack whose price is lower, the sailboat rack system has been designed with premium, marine grade components and is guaranteed for your first ocean voyage.  Pricing does not include shipping.

Barrington Marine Sailboat Rack Systems have been developed over the last 10 years by US sailor Neil Malik.  Malik developed the marine rack system over the course of two voyages on his Westsail 32 "Wanti." The first trip was from Rhode Island to the Caribbean, and the second from the Rhode Island to Europe via the Azores, then on to Madeira, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde and finally Brazil.

Foundation Block shown in white above.  The custom-fabricated stainless level mounts exit from the base of the foundation block and  remove the stress from the handrail by finding a perfect fit on any curved deck.  When the boat heels, the stress goes to the level mount feet (round, rubber pads shown in black above) and not to the handrails.

Recent Testimonial
"During my many summers of extended cruising on the Great Lakes I have needed a way to carry the equipment  needed for cruising the Canadian North Channel. I would love to be able to store my dinghy on the cabin top, but my boat just wasn't big enough. However, with my Barrinton Rack I will be able to store equipment that doesn't belong in the cabin proper and is not suited for the cockpit lazerettes.

I now have a place for the dinghy oars, fishing rods, landing nets, complete sun cover for the boat, gasoline can for the outboard, extra diesel fuel, and my inflatable (when deflated) dinghy.
After watching your installation video it was a snap to mount my rack on the cabin top in about 45 minutes. I found that it fits perfect while allowing a clear field of vision ahead from my cockpit seat. I just look under the rack. It is strong and steady as a rock; a real quality product built to last. The best part was it required no drilling of holes in the cabin top."
